His mother’s name is Saroja, and his father is Venkatachalam. Thiruppugazh, his brother, is an IAS officer as too. In addition, he has two sisters, Paingili and Insuvai. While the latter is an English professor and writer, the former teaches college students.

Irai Anbu started off as the Nagapattinam district’s under collector. He was the primary figure in the flood relief efforts.

He made every attempt to put an end to disturbances in the Nagapattinam area while serving as Sub collector. He spent the entire night in the Nagore Dargah in an attempt to quell unrest during the Kanthuri celebration. In an effort to stop violence, he also walked with the procession during the Ganesh Chaturti celebration.

He took action to give inmates at Cuddalore Central Prison vocational development training while serving as an Additional Collector in the Cuddalore District. It was considered a huge stride in the direction of prisoners’ reform.

Additionally, he moved to provide Narikuravas in the former South Arcot district with housing under the District Decentralization plan.

In 1995, he was also designated as a special officer for the Eighth World Tamil Conference, which was held in Thanjavur. Throughout the conference, he coordinated all of the committees.

In addition, he held positions as district collector in Kanchipuram district, deputy commissioner of municipal administration, director of information and public relations, secretary of information and tourism, secretary of tourism and culture, secretary of environment and forests, principal secretary of the department of economics and statistics, director of the institute for entrepreneurial development, principal secretary of the department of human resources development, and director of the Anna Institute of Management.
