About Ryerson University Renamed Toronto Metropolitan University

The Ryerson Institute of Technology was founded in 1948 and was named after Egerton Ryerson, a key contributor to the construction of the Canadian public education system. During the 1970s, the institution was granted limited degree-granting authority under that name.
