“Promotion of DaF courses to support German universities abroad” is a program that provides master’s level courses in German as a foreign language (DaF) at various locations around the world in order to train German teachers who are in high demand. Aiming to meet the growing demand for qualified teachers at universities in Sub-Saharan Africa, this program prepares African graduates of German-language programs for a career as a German teacher as well as for a career in higher education administration.

The University of Nairobi’s two-year master’s program (M.A. German Studies) was established in 1993 and is now in its twentieth year (UoN). With the title “Scholarships for the training and further education of African German students and German lecturers,” the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has been funding the course since 2011, with up to 10 scholarships (in country and in region) at the University of Nairobi and a one-semester stay in Germany included.
