CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR BEGINNING IN 2022

Background

With the establishment of the John A. Kufuor Foundation, an independent, nonpartisan development-oriented institution in 2015, the Kufuor Scholars Program (KSP) was established.

Specifically designed for African youth, the program offers a three-year transformational leadership preparation program that targets students in Ghanaian universities who are at the Level 100.

As part of its mission to enhance the value of formal education, the KSP is expected to produce leaders who are instilled with a strong sense of patriotism; leaders who are innovative, problem solvers, creative thinkers, and knowledgeable in their respective fields of endeavor.

KUFUOR SCHOLARSHIP (Kufuor Scholars Program)

Specific Program Objectives are listed below.

  • To cultivate and mentor the next generation of transformational leaders who are patriotic, selfless, and committed to their communities.
  • It is our mission to equip future leaders with the ethical qualities, abilities, and knowledge necessary to achieve success in their respective careers and leadership roles for national development.
  • •To assist young scholars in becoming agents of change for political, ethnic, and religious tolerance, as well as for national orientation in the pursuit of sustainable development

Eligibility

The potential Kufuor Scholar must meet the following requirements in order to be considered:

Be a citizen of the Republic of Ghana.

Enrolled at a Ghanaian university at level 100 in any academic discipline of your choice. Students who are in their second year (level 200) or higher are ineligible to apply.

Have a demonstrated interest in and experience in leadership (e.g. in school,community or at the national level).

Emphasis is placed on the ability to lead, the desire to serve, the moral force of one’s character, and outstanding academic intellect.

In order to promote national development, demonstrate a nationalistic orientation and the ability to promote political and religious tolerance as well as human rights and ethnic coexistence.

At the time of application, you must not be older than 23 years old.

The Award’s Specific Characteristics

A three-year period would be spent providing leadership mentoring, attending camps and excursions and visiting other locations, participating in webinars, participating in practicum leadership internships, and completing personal projects and group projects prior to graduation. The package includes a branded personal laptop as well as a stipend of GH500 per semester, as well as other benefits.

As well as participating in international exchange programs, the Scholar may have the opportunity to travel abroad.

How to Submit an Application for the Kufuor Scholarship Program

In order to be considered, interested young scholars must complete an online application through the Foundation’s website (www.kufuorscholarsprogram.org) and upload the following documents by July.

You must attach a 3-minute video of yourself explaining why you want to be a Kufuor Scholar (include information about yourself, leadership experience, and a concrete leadership role you played). The video should not be larger than 24MB in size.

There is a sample evidence-based essay on a leadership question available on the website (A 700-word statement)

Two letters of recommendation; one from a University lecturer, one from a community or civil society organizer, and one from the head of a public or private agency, all of whom are able to attest to the candidate’s abilities and potential for leadership.

Curriculum vitae in great detail

Applicants under the age of 18 are required to submit a letter of consent from their parents.

When the transcripts for the first semester are made available, they will be required to be submitted.
